WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — When Darryl Hunt disappeared, leaving a note at the home of his friend Larry Little, it set off on a search that ended more than a week later when Hunt’s body was found in Little’s pickup truck on March 13, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
Little talked about the note during Hunt’s memorial service on Saturday, and afterward said it was clear that his friend was “frustrated and was just going to check out.”
Police say Hunt died when he shot himself in the abdomen with a gun. Police did not call the death a suicide, but Little said the tone of the note Hunt left made it clear to him that the shooting was no accident.
“His thing was, ‘When I get this note he would probably already be dead,’” Little said. “He felt that he had tried to help people. He felt responsible for the breakup of his marriage … that (ex-wife) April was there before there was any freedom and money … he wanted the community to help her move on with her life. He was suffering with stomach and prostate cancer. He said, ‘Larry, don’t let them forget about Kalvin Michael Smith.’ ”
