FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — On the day Alexander Perez would have turned 11, the woman who killed him apologized to his family and said Tuesday was not about her — it was about Alexander’s family.
Imani Louise Blache Stanley, 21, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felony hit-and-run involving death and failure to maintain lane control — a traffic infraction — in Forsyth Superior Court.
Prosecutors said that Stanley was driving 60 mph in a 25 mph residential zone when her car struck Alexander, a student at Konnoak Elementary School, severing his spine and vaulting him 70 feet.
Moments after Judge John O. Craig of Forsyth Superior Court sentenced Stanley to a minimum of 16 months in prison, Stanley became hysterical, grabbing her mother and telling her she couldn’t serve time in prison.
