WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Turning a backyard basketball court into a mini ice hockey rink seems like a breeze, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
But turning a 20-by 30-foot court into a viable rink isn’t as simple as it sounds, said Tibor Nemeth III, a Buffalo, N.Y., and Boston transplant who moved to Winston-Salem in 2011.
The rink at on Rosewood Avenue in the Ardmore neighborhood required a tarp thick enough and leak-proof enough to hold the water.
Then the temperature had to dip low enough — into the upper teens and lower 20s to freeze the water — which it did overnight Wednesday.
